Producer Notes
With a wealth of history under its belt, Domaine de la Pousse d’Or is located in Volnay in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. Quite amazingly, there is documentation of the estate existing as far back as the 1100’s, with the cellars dating back to the 16th Century. Heritage aside, la Pousse d’Or has continued to add to its premium vineyard holdings and boasts an exquisite collection of Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines that collectors go mad for, including Bonnes-Mares, Clos de la Roche and Chevalier-Montrachet. The vineyards are managed organically with the Grand Cru wines seeing more new oak than the Premier Cru wines, adding body and further enhancing concentration and complexity of flavour. Interestingly, the estate is experimenting with terracotta amphorae for some of their Premier Cru wines as a way of retaining purity of fruit expression whilst still creating texture and weight.
