Producer Notes

Vietti is one of the most beautiful and celebrated estates in Barolo, with a wealth of history in its production since it was established in 1873. The black grape variety used in most of the winemaking is Nebbiolo in both the Barolo and Barbaresco wines, but Vietti is also proud to produce fresh and fruity white wine from the indigenous grape variety โ€œArneisโ€. Although the estate is located in central Barolo, in Castiglione Falletto, the family have a good amount of vineyard land throughout the Langhe area which allows them to source grapes from many different regions, adding many intricacies and complexities to the resulting wines. Vietti was one of the first estates in the Piedmont region to label wines according to single vineyard expressions, which still happens today, allowing the winemakers to express unique nuances in every one of the wines produced.

Viettiโ€™s two claims to fame are being one of the first to bottle single-vineyard Baroloโ€™s back in the 1950โ€™s and saving the white wine grape Arneis from extinction back in the 1960โ€™s.
They are now better known for their elegant and fine Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The Vietti estate is still family run and has gained a loyal following of drinkers who seem happy to pay the high prices these wines now fetch. In defence of the high prices the quality is very good and the level of complexity and elegance produced, particularly in the single vineyard Barolo, is enticing.
