Producer Notes

La Rioja Alta produce a large number of wines from the low to the high end of the market. They are traditional in style but employ modern facilities and set the marker for quality in the region. Their wines are well made and thoughtful but complexity starts with the Viña Ardana and Ardanza Reservas. These provide excellent value and should be approached with at least 5 years of age. In good years they produce two Gran Reservas, 904 and 890, which are elegant, complex, and sometimes tricky to get hold of, particularly the latter. Both rank among the best wines produced in Rioja.
