Producer Notes
One of the fanciest chateau buildings in Bordeaux, Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is the result of the separation of the Chateau Pichon estate in 1850. Both halves were classified as second growths in 1855 and are still highly rated.
The older wines of ‘Pichon Comtesse’ have a higher proportion of merlot than most Pauillacs (Cabernet Sauvignon 45%, Merlot 35%, Cabernet Franc 12%, Petit Verdot 8%) and are thus a little softer in style, which is sometimes no bad thing, but replanting in the last 10 years is increasing the quantity of Cabernet Sauvignon in order to compete with their powerful neighbours for points from Mr Parker.
