Producer Notes
Originally known as Fazilleau, the name l’Evangile was given to the chateau and its vineyard in the mid-18th century and it has enjoyed a solid reputation ever since. The wines were known to be well-made and full but perhaps a little dry for a Pomerol. Since Domaines Barons de Rothschild of Lafite bought a majority share in 1990, the wine has made a great deal of progress. They increased the percentage of Merlot in the blend as well as the level of new oak used for ageing. The wines have subsequently become far richer and more generous whilst also becoming more elegant and complex.
They also produce a second wine, Blason de l’Evangile.
