Wine Notes
With the scorching summer heat of 2009 Ornellaia’s expertise at blending to get the best out of the crop was tested and they certainly succeeded. This is well-balanced with great concentration but has retained a freshness necessary to keep it vibrant.
Producer Notes
Founded in the mid-1980โs, Tenuta Dellโ Ornellaia, started by producing a Bordeaux blend that focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with occasional additions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vineyard that produces Ornellaia borders that of its famous Super Tuscan neighbour, Sassicaia in the Maremma district on the coast of Tuscany. The combination of the maritime climate and the Bordeaux grapes make this a fairly major wine and one that should be given at least 10-15 years of bottle age depending on the vintage.
Tenutta Dellโ Ornellaia also produce a second wine from the Ornellaia grapes called Le Serre Nuove, as well as Le Volte a Sangiovese blend. They also own the highly regarded Masseto vineyard.
