Producer Notes
The Il Poggione estate has remained in the same family since its founding in the late 19th century by Lavinio Franchesi. The winery has been given a modern makeover but, like other Brunello producers, continues to use many traditional wine making methods. From their Sangiovese vineyards they make a Brunello, a Rosso and the Vigna Paganelli Riserva which is produced from the oldest vines on the estate. They also grow Cabernet and Merlot which they blend with the Sangiovese grapes to produce a RossoToscana IGT as well as a Chardonnay and Vermentino blend.
They are a well-regarded and consistent producer that can offer good value in the region. The Brunello and the Riserva from good vintages can last many a decade and are worth cellaring.
