Producer Notes
Calon-Ségur has a reputation based on historical importance as well as the quality of its wine. Although the Chateau has changed hands over the centuries it is one of the oldest in the Médoc and has maintained a name for itself throughout.
The wines themselves took a dip in quality in the early 1960’s but by the 90’s they had recovered and have since shown to be well-made, complex wines that deserve their Troisieme Cru 1855 classification. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (the percentage has been creeping up) with Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
They also produce Marquis de Calon which is a Merlot heavy blend made from the younger vines.
