Producer Notes
Nestled in the hills of the historic Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, Fontodi was rescued from disrepair in 1968 by the Manetti family who still own and manage the estate today. The main grape variety used in all production is the indigenous Italian, Sangiovese, which brings a lot of freshness and vibrancy to the wines whilst fellow black grapes Canaiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon are used in the blending to add fruit flavour and depth. The vineyard and winery have been following sustainable practices for decades with full Organic Certification officially approved in recent years. Fontodi is a very highly regarded estate for their consistent quality across the board, from the basic level Chianti to the Chianti Classico Riserva. There is great value to be found across the spectrum here in approachable, youthful styles as well as age-worthy, single vineyard expressions.
