Wine Notes
Well-made Pauillac from a decent vintage that is just coming into its drinking window. Bordeaux is a region where loose bottles from the mid-age vintages are hard to come by. If you like to buy in smaller quantities than twelve you either have to drink your Bordeaux young or fairly old. A middle ground would be sensible.
Producer Notes
A fifth growth Pauillac that long held a reputation for undervalued quality Claret. Over the last 20 years this reputation has shifted with the wine becoming more sought after thanks to an increase in the wines complexity and elegance. However, whilst some argue it is no longer undervalued, it is still good value and the price reflects the market in general.
Heavy on the Cabernet Sauvignon the blend usually produces a wine with succulent fruit, a strong tannic core and a good dose of new oak.
The second wine, Lions de Batailley, is a similar blend but more fruit forward thanks to the increased percentage of Merlot.
