Producer Notes

Based in the Barossa Valley in South Australia, Torbreck is a vine-grower and wine producer working with old vines that are well over 100 years of age. The estate uses white and black grape varieties best known for producing Rhone Valley wines including Grenache, Mataro (Mouvedre) and Shiraz for the red wine production and Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne for the white wine production. The team have been able to make 100% of their wine from estate grown-fruit for the last few years, and express their terroir by creating wines from single vineyard parcels. Despite the warm and arid conditions this region can face, the Torbrek team succeeds in retaining some of the grapesโ€™ more subtle aromas and flavours, allowing the final wines to have a great amount of elegance and finesse. Their full range of wines are very impressively consistent in quality with their entry level wines competitively priced.
Torbreck Estate was founded in 1994 but gained notoriety early on. It produces some of the most expensive wines in Australia but, also produces a fair few others that are affordable and certainly not lacking in quality. RunRig and the Descendant are the wines that make the headlines and dominate the high prices but, vintage dependant, they are not always unreasonable. Some of the more classic vintages that age quicker and are a little more mellow tend to go for less than the bigger, bolder vintages.
