Wine Notes
Haras de Pirque was set up in the 1990’s with the Antinori family becoming part owners in 2004 after collaborating on the Albis blend. The focus for this wine is small yields from high quality vines. 2016 was an El Nino year in Chile, meaning that the Albis is softer and has a slightly more Old World feel to it. Production was somewhat lower than most years but the wine is more elegant and probably longer maturing as a result.
Producer Notes
Haras de Pirque is an old racing stud dating from the 19th centory that commenced wine-making in the early 1990s. Since 2004 the winery’s largest shareholders have been the Antinori family, of Tignanello fame, who have funded the building of a rather snazzy winery building and significantly improved the quality of the output.
Their flagship wines include Albis, a Cabernet Sauvignon / Carmenere blend, and Galantas, Cabernet Franc with a little Carmenere.
Both are good value.
